India created history in its final event of the Tokyo Olympics. In the javelin throw finals, India won the gold medal, thanks to Neeraj Chopra’s heroic effort.

It was the perfect start from the Indian, as he fired 87.03m to shoot up to the top of the table in the opening round itself while a couple of Germans challenged him. In the second attempt, Neeraj bettered it by throwing it at a distance of 87.58m, thus maintaining his top spot.

With this feat, Neeraj Chopra ends India’s over 100-year wait for Olympic medal in athletics. Neeraj Chopra is now the 2nd Indian after Abhinav Bindra to win a gold medal in individual events.

As a result of this win, India has now won 7 medals at the Tokyo Olympics 2020.
